Audition to sing with LBCS! We are a community-based auditioned vocal ensemble made up of skilled singers who are passionate about cultivating joy and community through excellence in choral performance.

Both new and returning singers audition each year in June. The audition consists of a group vocalization and rehearsal on a piece of music. There may be openings available throughout the year, so if you are interested in getting started right away, contact the artistic director (ryan@lbchambersingers.org) with prescreening materials as outlined below. Otherwise, follow instructions below to request an audition by May 31st! 

Rehearsals are held on Tuesday evenings from 7:00-9:30pm in Laguna Beach.

Audition Process:
Step 1: Record. Singers may choose to sing a cappella or with accompaniment. Intonation is prioritized.

• Option 1: Submit a link of a recent solo performance

• Option 2: Record yourself singing “Happy Birthday” or another melody of your choice.

Step 2: Submit the below registration form with included recording by May 31st (priority consideration)
Step 3: (by invite only). Attend audition day in Laguna Beach. Audition day will determine the initial roster for the following season and will include a rehearsal of a song and quartet performances. Ensemble skills such as learning your part quickly, intonation, and appropriate vowel choices will be prioritized.

FAQ:
What if I am not available for audition day?

• Email ryan@lbchambersingers.org to schedule an audition meeting with the artistic director. 1-1 auditions will occur on a rolling basis after June 18th based on any remaining openings in each of the sections.

Is it okay if I do not read sheet music?

• Yes, however, while excellent sight-reading ability is not required, all singers must be capable of learning their part quickly in rehearsal without the use of a practice track.

What if I am unable to attach my recording because the file is too large? 

• Simply email the file to ryan@lbchambersingers.org

• Recommend recording using a voice memo app. No additional recording equipment required.

What will audition day consist of?

• The first part of audition day will be a rehearsal with all interested singers. The second part of audition day will consist of octet performances for one another. 

Will we received the music ahead of time?

• No, auditioning singers will receive the music upon their arrival to audition day. 

When will I be notified with audition results?

• All Singers who are present at audition day will be notified within 3 weeks at most.

Do current and returning singers need to audition for the 2024-2025 season? 

• Yes, all singers audition each year for the following season but previous members must submit their registration form and recording below.
